HK Historical Exhibit - Bowling Ball - Hello Kitty Three Apples Party
Hello Kitty Bowling Ball

Last Thursday night: Worked late the library. Answered reference questions like: "I want information on this person because I was her in my previous life."

This Thursday night: Hanging out with Hello Kitty, Paris Hilton, Kimora Lee Simmons, and a Japanese rock star from X Japan.

My friend JustJenn (maker of awesome Hello Kitty cupcakes and the I Like Big Bundts logo) was invited to the Grand Opening party of Three Apples: An Exhibition Celebrating 35 Years of Hello Kitty! And she invited me to go with her! (Bundt cakes for life, JustJenn!)

The Three Apples Exhibition is held at Royal/T in Culver City. JustJenn and I went there earlier for their interesting Japanese French Maid waitresses and exhibit space.

It's divided into the Hello Kitty Apartment, Product Retrospective and Japan LA Art Show. All of it...awesomeness!

Who doesn't just love Hello Kitty?! Hello Kitty is celebrating her 35th Birthday!

Kimora Lee Simmons - Hello Kitty Three Apples Party Paris Hilton - Hello Kitty Three Apples Party
Kimora Lee Simmons has a line of very blinged out HK jewerly. Paris Hilton and her drove the paparazzi mad. Kimora's two daughters were cute too. It's funny because you recognize the assistants and staff from her reality TV show...yes, I might have watched a few episodes...

JustJenn has better photos of the duo. Me...I'm sticking to photographing food and I'm not a paparazzi!

Um, I need this in my house. Different color gumball machines lined the entrance.

The Three Apples Art Show is curated by Jamie Rivadeneira, owner of pop-culture shop in Los Angeles, JAPAN LA. Over 80 one-of-a-kind Hello Kitty inspired pieces are on display and for sale. Read about the talented artists here. You can own a piece of HK inspired art! It was a really excellent show. They have a exhibition book for purchase too.

Devo Hello Kitty. Awesome.

Why is it called Three Apples? That's Hello Kitty's weight on her bio!

Royal/T Servers - Hello Kitty Three Apples Party
The Royal/T staff wears these french maid outfits. Maid Cafes are a thing in Japan...see more about it here. Tonight, all the staff wore appropriate Hello Kitty bows!

I owned this! I'm Going To School totebag - Hello Kitty Three Apples Party
Hello Kitty Product Retrospective (you can rename this part: Things JustJenn owned). I owned this bag! I'm sure if you will find items you had in the 4th grade in the exhibit too.

Flash Key - Hello Kitty Three Apples Party
In addition to the exhibit, there is a pop-up store of all things Hello Kitty. This is a flash key. I know, sooo cute! I bought yet another bag and cute Hello Kitty shaped paperclips. They have special 35th Anniversary products on sale.

Items made in different prefectures of Japan were on display. Look at these great trivets from the Iwate prefecture!

Hello Kitty food related products. I'm so there. Can you see the HK sake bottle and cups?!?!

Hello Kitty Kimono - Hello Kitty Three Apples Party
Many people put on their best Hello Kitty clothes. Look at this beautiful Hello Kitty kimono with a lovely obi.

I'm still so excited and am planning multiple trips back to Royal/T for the Three Apples special menu. And, don't worry, next Thursday is going to back to boring normal.

The staff of Sanrio, Japan LA, Royal/T did such a great job. The exhibitions are truly magnificent!

If you are in Los Angeles, or can get to Los Angeles soon, please go visit. The exhibit is FREE and open to the public...but it's only here for a few weeks and it is not traveling! October 23 – November 15, 2009. They have a bunch of special events planned - including the HK birthday party, Halloween night and a wonderful Hello Kitty related menu!! They also have special workshops in jewelry making and Hello Kitty bento & sushi making. All events are located Royal/T Cafe in Culver City. 8910 Washington Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232, T 310 559 6300

Boatload of other photos here on my Flickr account!

Be sure to check out JustJenn's post about the night too!

What a fun post! I can't believe Ms Kitty is 35, but I'm glad I'm not the only one growing old.

Many years ago, I was watching a street parade in a small village in Japan and there amid the ancient heroes and legendary warriors, was a Hello Kitty and Dear uhm, Daniel (?) float. Trippy.

We also flew on a Pokemon plane. Love that country :)
