Honey-Wheat Cookies - Tuesdays with Dorie
Honey-Wheat Cookies via Novocaine

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Michelle of Flourchild picked Honey-Wheat Cookies, page 81 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

Okay. This post is almost late (but isn't...45 minutes to spare!) and I'm way distracted. Dude, it's the Winter Olympics! I've been watching these awesome Vancouver games and have bags under my eyes to prove it. Even though I'm on the West Coast getting the delayed feed and know all the results via Twitter, I'm still lovin' it.

I planned to make these cookies yesterday but called my dentist about a sensitive tooth. Before I knew it, I was sprawled out on the dentist chair listening to soft rock and sitting through the 10-year long injection of Novocaine. Twice. Upper and lower left side of face. And then I got three filling-type buccals (I think that is what I got) to cover exposed nerve endings. Oh, my sorry gums. You literally cause me pain.

Anyway, I skipped the store (for the wheat germ) and took a nap. When I woke up, I swear, someone had come into my house and hit me on the side of the face during my nap. Or, I was on Jerry Springer and I got beat up by some woman who thought I was making eyes on her man...or woman...or transvestite man/woman. Or, I was in my new favorite Winter Olympic sport Snowboard Cross and ate it. Thus, no cookies yesterday, and just a handful of Tylenol instead.

So, as I watch the ladies short program tonight, I made a few of these Honey Wheat Cookies. Taking photos between programs and during the Ski Cross. Yes, nothing like eating cookies while athletes give it their all.

The cookies? Delicious. And they have wheat germ so I'm going to have a bunch for breakfast. ;)

Be sure to check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers!

Ugh - my teeth are so sensitive! The other day, my dentist said if the fluoride treatment didn't work, there were some other things they could do (instead of going straight to a root canal - ack!) - maybe that's what he was talking about!

Hope you feel better soon.

Jami, Thanks! I'm better now! It just took a day or so to recover. But yeah, gums are way valuable. :) - mary

Too much (dental) information - or... is that "inflammation"? :) I'm so glad these were "soft" cookies, weren't you? And I hoped you spike them with something to get you through. The look fantastic - the perfect dental diversion - along with the Games!

Well, I suppose it's a good thing these cookies are on the soft side. That makes for a nice post-dentist dessert.

Hope you're feeling better now Mary - that doesn't sound like a lot of fun! Your cookies look terrific. I was skeptical about these because of the wheat germ, but they were surprisingly yummy.

Hope you are feeling better! Dental work is the worst. I do love eating while athletes compete though. These are never something I would make on my own, but they have gotten such good reviews that maybe I will try.

Oh man, that sounds a terrible experience! For some reason, dental pain terrifies me. Hope you feel better soon and glad you made these delicious cookies!

They look delicious. Nothing like being productive during commercials during Olympic programming.

This is why I was so glad, when I last had dental surgery (admittedly, getting my wisdom teeth out), that my doctor said, "Make sure you take pain medication before the novacaine wears off." Otherwise I would have been crying it hurt so bad.

I want to eat these cookies while I watch the Olympics! I finally got into the Olympics, but I need to stress-eat while I watch or I would feel even worse about my body in comparison to the athletes.

My teeth are super sensitive too...it is so annoying?! I hope they feel better soon. I too am addicted to the olympics. I am obsessed with the snowboarding and ladies figure skating now.

I too have enjoyed the irony of stuffing my face with cookies while watching top athletes compete.

I'm glad that you are feeling better. And I agree, eating while watching sports/workouts/olympics is the best.

Thanks for posting!

The cookies look perfect...my teen boys like to stack them up like this on their kneecaps with their legs propped up to hold books when they are studying. Your stack reminds me of that. I loved these, they were the perfect match with a cup of tea as the lemon and honey were built right into the cookie. What a deal!

Awesome recipe! I cannot wait to try them out. I must try them though with Kamut Khorasan Wheat flour vs AP. Kamut is just so healthy and delicious!
