Lizano Salsa from Costa Rica
Salsa Lizano

I was recently gifted a bottle of Lizano Salsa from Costa Rica from an actual Costa Rican. Holy smokes. Have you tried this stuff? It is fantastic!! Where have you been all my life?

I've decided it is Condiment Time on the blog. No, not a crazy month-long condiment commitment (who would do anything for a whole month?! ;), but just a few of my favorite condiments. You might want to try some...and you will probably realize I try to cover up my basic cooking with lots of condiments.

We'll start with my new favorite, Salsa Lizano!

A Costa Rican staple, Salsa Lizano is made with Water, Sugar, Salt, Vegetables, (Onions, Carrots, Cauliflower, Cucumbers), Spices, Acetic Acid, Pepper, Starch, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein, Tumeric
You can pour it over, well, practically anything. Eggs, meats, rice and beans...it is tasty stuff. It is not spicy (perfect for my weak Japanese tastebuds), salty and a little sweet.

Note to Andy (the actual Costa Rican) and Jessica:
Thanks for getting me hooked on this condiment from the Gods. I'm hooked. And when you go to Costa Rica this month, take my empty suitcase and fill it up with bottles of Salsa Lizano please. ;)

You can find it on Amazon or you might be able to find it at a Latino market...If you are in Los Angeles and know who has it, please let me know! (in case my friends don't carry back enough bottles from their upcoming trip! :)

This stuff ROCKS! I brought a ton back from Costa Rica and now my stock is gone. It's a little hard to find in the States, but I have some friends who have found it.

Never had it - but I'm absolutely into condiments. I'm usually in Puerto Rico once a year and I always bring back a stash of condiments & sauces from this little shop in Old San Juan called Spicy Caribbee. So delicious. They even have chips out with bottles of the condiments so you can sample all you want. The condiments are actually made in St. Lucia. My favorites: Green Heat, Mango Pepper Sauce and Hot Sauce. Check 'em out at www.spicycaribbee.com.

OH EMM GEEE!

I love this stuff. Totally fell in love with it when I was in Costa Rica. Brought a bunch of bottles back with me and ate it on everything.

I just brought home some Lizano hot sauce from my week in Nicaragua! Absolutely delicious -- I ate it on everything while I was there, and can't wait to eat it on everything at home.

Do you refrigerate your Lizano Salsa after opening???

@Deb Deb, I refrigerated mine, but I'm not sure if you have to. Sorry, I used all mine up so I can't check the bottle. Also, sorry for the delay in my response. Your comment was in the spam folder. - mary
