Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars (Tuesdays with Dorie)
Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Lillian of Confectiona’s Realm picked Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars, pages 114 and 115 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars (Tuesdays with Dorie)
I followed the directions except I subbed dried cranberries for the raisins. These cookies are really rich so I cut them into small squares.

These cookies have a bunch of candy-bar like ingredients: peanuts, oatmeal, raisins (or dried cranberries), and a chocolate center.

Be sure to check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers!

I love that you used cranberries in these bars. I was so tempted to sub cranberries for raisins, but I chickened out at the last minute and just used peanuts. I'll have to try cranberries next time. Your bars look awesome, I love the peanut cranberry goodness suspended in the chocolate layer.

we're on the same wavelength...I went the cranberry route too, and was really happy with how yummy they turned out.

I couldn't quite get myself to put raisins or cranberries in but your bars look delicious! I may have to try cranberries if I make these again!

They look pictrue perfect - as I would expect of anything you do.

I'm surprised you didn't try to make these in a bundt pan! :)

How did you get yours to look so...pretty? Dried cranberries sound like they would be delicious additions.

I think yours have the perfect balance of oat layers to chocolate! I skipped the raisins and peanuts, so found my middle layer a bit thin. Still pretty good, though!

I definitely would have replaced the raisins also. These look very rich!

I love these! And with oatmeal, they have to be healthy, right? ;)

Good call on the fruit replacement - raisins were just so.... "ick"! These look spectacular - and love the prep photos!

Your bars look perfect! I had cranberries on hand, but they weren't dried. I went with raisins, which I love with chocolate.

What lovely looking bars! A lot of TWDers went the cranberry route and I love that idea. I have made a note in my book for next time.

These sound downright blissful. Great photos!

I'll bet cranberries added a nice bite to the taste. Raisins added only texture. Lovely photos!

I think I chopped the peanuts really small and not so course - I like how you can see clean cut chunks of peanut in the chocolate layer on your bars.

Cranberries seem to be one of the more popular substitution for those ever controversial raisins.
