Mrs. Vogel’s Scherben - Tuesdays with Dorie
Mrs. Vogel’s Scherben

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Teanna of Spork or Foon? selected Mrs. Vogel’s Scherben, pages 157-159 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

Fried dough.
Sweet.

I'm running way, way late on this one so I rushed home and totally made the dough wrong - added the ingredients out of order. I have to remind myself to actually READ the directions next time. Please see Teanna's great blog to see how to properly make the dough - she has cool step-by-step photos. I didn't let it sit long enough in the refrig and used the freezer to speed things along. They ended up too thick...but that's okay. You know what you get then? Thick fried dough. Still pretty sweet.

Be sure to check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers! Some baked 'em and I've seen a lot of pretty shapes out there today!

Thick? I love that they look like sweet fried finger cookies. I can imagine how light they are when bitten into. Beautiful!

I kind of liked the thicker pieces myself! Love the pic. Even if you did everything wrong it still looks like they turned out perfectly!

Love your composition on these photos Mary! Even a bit thick, your scherben look delicious! These were very dangerous for me to have around - I just kept popping them into my mouth one after another :)

Yep, nothing wrong with thick fried dough! I like how puffy yours look! ;) I didn't follow all the directions either. Everyone seems to have these neat little slits down the middle and I didn't even see that. But I like how mine puffed up and they probably would have with slits!

i don't think these little sticks of heaven could ever be too thick. after all, it's just dough. fried. coated with cinnamon and sugar. :)

They look pretty delicious in spite of their thickness. Thin, or thick, they are good.

I think thick fried dough sounds pretty great, personally. I give you a lot of credit for getting this done. If I don't have enough time I'm very likely just to let the whole thing pass. They look very tasty to me!

yeah, but they totally look cute and fluffy!

I'm scared of hot oil myself. Might not make these.
