Wedding Cake & Cupcakes

The library celebrated a colleague's recent marriage with a party. I wasn't able to attend but brought this dessert for the celebration.

Wedding Cake - Lemon Curd Cake

White cupcakes with Lemon Swiss Meringue Frosting

I made Martha Stewart's Lemon Curd Cake as a 6" cake and cupcakes. I've made this before and it is seriously one of my favorite cakes. I was going to cheat a bit and get some prepared lemon curd at Trader Joe's but they didn't have any! So I ended up getting some lemons and making my own (Martha's recipe). I made her Lemon Swiss Meringue Buttercream frosting.

Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

Here are Dorie Greenspan's Chocolate Chocolate cupcakes. These sooo rock. I made them a bunch of times and they are always a big hit. This time, I frosted them with a cream cheese frosting (so easy: 2 blocks of 8 oz cream cheese, softened and 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted). Thanks Mrs. J for this recipe!!

Creating a cupcake stand Creating a cupcake stand

I developed this homemade stand. I didn't see the point of buying a large three-tier stand that had very limited use. I had these Crate & Barrel glass serving trays (Totally cheap - I think they were $6 and $8). I picked up the smallest one recently (on sale for $3!). Together with some short glass cups and some Quake Hold! putty (a must here in Southern California), it was an instant stand! (You could get the clear Museum Gel for a cleaner look too).

Gotta run. Olympics is packed tonight! Michael Phelps, gymnastics, and beach volleyball with So Cal players May & (Happy Birthday Kerri) Walsh! I'm so addicted to the Olympics. Yesterday, I was watching one of NBC's other channels and saw a great quarterfinal badminton game! Are you having as much fun (and no sleep) as me?! Even the commercials are good. I just want Morgan Freeman to narrate my life...those Visa commercials rock. "And then the Food Librarian combines the butter and sugar. Go Cake."

Consider my sleep deprivation my patriotic support of the U.S. athletes!

That lemon curd cake is seriously AMAZING. It took a lot of work, but was totally worth it. I baked the normal sized one for my sister's wedding anniversary a few years back, and my family still talks about it as the best cake they've all ever eaten.

Very pretty and you are very talented. I was a floral designer for 5 years and now I am a librarian. I have seen (and worked on) a lot of wedding cakes/floral displays. I really liked your creative cake stand as well.

You are sooo talented Ms. Food Librarian! This is so pretty! I love all the decorations, including your clever cake stand, and I love that you made a cake and cupcakes too. Yummy.

I'm glad to hear someone is watching as much Olympic coverage as I am. It seems like I'm the only one out here so obsessed with it. I've been trying to stay up as late as I can but on the East Coast, the coverage basically goes on all night! I even forgot to watch Project Runway, which is pretty shocking. I need to look for a rerun episode. (I watch a lot of tv for a librarian!)

Fantastic job! I love the dots--your cake looks very much like my Perfect Party Cake from March's Daring Bakers challenge. And add me to the list of people who are sleep-deprived due to watching the Olympics. I really wanted to watch the gymnastics coverage last night, but I couldn't stay awake anymore. =)

Gorgeous! Want to make my wedding cake? ;) I think it's awesome that we share a love of all things Crate and Barrel or Olympics. Our boy Phelps is doing well, isn't he? And YES, Morgan Freeman rocks those Visa commercials.

Those cakes and cupcakes look great! I made Dorie's chocolate-chocolate cupcakes a couple weeks ago and I thought they were the best I have had. I love your icing job. They all look lovely!

Your cakes and cupcakes look amazing!! What a cool flavor combination. You are making me so hungry! I want some! You do this professionally, right? Are you listed with http://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/wedding_cakes_bakeries.html yet? I am browsing looking for wedding cakes and you are as good or better as some of the folks on there and that's where we're getting everything for our wedding. I love the cupcakes idea. Maybe I will do cupcakes and a cake? Ideas...
