Ferry Building Marketplace, San Francisco
On my last day in SF, I headed to the Ferry Building Marketplace to grab some salt and lunch before my flight back to Los Angeles.
If you visit San Francisco, make sure the Ferry Building is on your list. In addition to the indoor stores, they have a farmer's market on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the plaza. It's easy to get to...just outside the Embarcadero BART/Muni stop.
I really like how they use these mini Chinese food containers for their cupcakes.
Very cute idea that I'm borrowing!
Mushroom Salad at DELICA rf1
Their roast beef sushi is perfect - but since my stomach was still full from the House of Prime Rib the night before, I passed this time...but will be back again ($2.50 each)
I stopped off at Boulette's Larder - a beautiful shop and cafe. I was asked by a friend to pick up some Vanilla sea salt. She said she would reimburse me. Little did I know that I would have to sell my plasma to come up with the cash. I'm just not hip about my salt (Trader Joe's for me). The guy rang up the sale and it was $16.80 for this little tub. I'm sure real crack is less expensive. Here is the description from Boulette's Larder website: Sea salt from the Isle of Anglesey ground with whole tahitian vanilla bean. Good with crab, lobster, squash and sweets.
I'm heading to the Isle of Anglesey and digging up some salt!
Mushrooms and others for sale at Far West Fungi, San Francisco
There are a bunch of other fun stores and restaurants....including the Cowgirl Creamery, Recchiuti confections, Slanted Door restaurant, and Boccalone (store that has everything swine related - except flu). See the full directory here!
"Hey, where's my cupcake? Roast beef sushi would work too."
Whew! Thanks for coming along on my trip (and if you were bored, no worries...just move on. I'm doing these posts to record my own diary of events since I can't seem to make scrapbooks or organize stuff anymore). Thanks to Sumi, Diane, Brian, Pam, Rose, Yoko, Shannon, Ben and Cousin Stan and Cousin-in-Law David for making my trip so much fun. I'll be up again very shortly and hope you all come down to Los Angeles soon! (And Charlotte...catch you next time!) - mary the food librarian
