There are several phrases that make me say "What?!"
They include:
- No dessert, thank you.
- I don't vote.
- Vegan Soul Food (Comedian Hari Kondabolu explains it best)
- I don't watch TV.
- My farmer's market closed for the season.
Oh, I'm so spoiled. I live in Los Angeles and they is a certified farmer's market every day someplace in the County. Just check out this list. And since California is a bounty of lovely agriculture, we have a variety of fruits, vegetables, and nuts.
Ah, the Golden state. You crazy with a huge deficit, lotsa potholes, unattainable housing prices and earthquakes, but you have farmer's markets all over. All. Year. Long. Love to you, California.
My new year's resolution involves cooking more things that don't come out of a box or package so I picked up a few items. Usually, I pack my car full of fruit (um, and kettle corn), but this time I bought more veggies. I also posted a list of the veggies I have in the refrig to remind me to eat them all - I'll let you know how that works. I gave some to my folks too...in exchange for their Meyer Lemons. :)
(Special note to my friend on the East Coast, R and her family: See what you are missing?! Pack up the car and move back! I'll meet you at the farmer's market).
Some photos from this weekend's Farmer's Market stroll...

You summed up why I miss California...when I'm not weeping for the state it's in! What a gorgeous haul. To be fair, even in our frigid sub-zero east coast temperatures, there are local farmers who are still chugging along with their covered frames and producing winter crops! I wouldn't have the stamina.
What an amazing assortment of deliciousness! Great idea to post a list of veggies on the fridge...stuff always gets lost in there...
Gotta' love the kale - with the lady bug. Some kale and good luck to boot - yum!
Oooooh! Look at all thoise colors! Although it's probably good we don't have year-round famrer's markets...I'd be penniless.
girl, i haven't seen strawberries at the farmers market since july! :(
Jealous and Bitter in CT....wow.....I want in!
We moved away from SoCal a few months ago and I can't tell you how much I miss the year-round farmers' markets!
I've been telling my husband for years that we need to move to a place where there is fresh produce available year round. I hate the produce in Colorado after the markets are gone. It is disgusting sometimes, what is offered out there.
You are very, very lucky!
Man, you're making me want to move to CA! :-) I'm on the East coast too and yes, our farmers markets close for the season. At least the good ones. The rest have a pathetic variety of preserves for the winter.
I would love it if we had a farmers market here!
Jealous. I want local poms!
Well you know how I feel about the FM. Let's go together some time!
I'm with the others who say they're jealous of your year round farmer's market. It's tough enough finding one around me at all, let alone year-round! Crazy Californias with constant fresh veggies...*grump*
Also...ladybug = extra protein?
While we don't have fresh strawberries this time of year, we are lucky enough to have a YEAR round farmers market in WI! But I would love some warmer weather to go with it. :)
