UCLA Cupcakes
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8....U...C...L...A!

My UCLA Bruins are playing cross-town rivals USC Trojans on Saturday, Dec 6th (here goes my birthday mention #1,004,582: that's the day before my birthday)!

Yes, I've heard the point spread (I think UCLA is a 900 point underdog at this point). And yes, I've seen the footage of several interceptions by UCLA this season. But I also remember UCLA winning a critical game a few years back. So..it can happen! I believe!

Clara from Ihearteverything (hee hee) - Iheartfood4thought and Iheartcuppycakes, Linda from Tendercrumb and I are having a virtual blog-luck tailgate party for the game! And you are invited!

UCLA Cupcakes
I made these chocolate cupcakes (Martha Stewart's One Bowl recipes) with cream cheese frosting (equal parts blocks of cream cheese to cups of powdered sugar).

I picked up these Bruin Blue & Gold sprinkles at Surfas, and bought the adorable UCLA confetti at the Fresno State-UCLA game (yeah, we lost that one too). I'm dropping some off at my cousin's house so she can bring them into work too!

UCLA Cupcakes
Whether we win or lose this Saturday, I'm just so proud of being a Bruin. I wanted to go to UCLA since I was 12 years old, and can still remember the day in 1989 when I got accepted as an undergrad (yeah, back then we got thick envelopes, not email acceptances!) And I was so excited to head back to UCLA for my Master's in Library and Information Studies in 2003 and meet some really wonderful friends.

Years ago, I remember talking up March Madness at my old job. My colleague went to a small college with no sports teams, and just couldn't get the whole "college spirit" and UCLA obsession. She happened to be a big Lakers and Dodgers fan. So I explained it this way:

No matter how much I work out and practice my swing, I'll probably never play for the Dodgers. And even if I find a pill that makes me grow 12 inches (that'll only make me 6'2"!!), I'll probably never be a Laker. But I'll always be a Bruin.

So, UCLA football team... I don't have tickets to the game, but you'll hear me cheering my heart out this weekend! Goooooo Bruins!

Wait wait. I do not heart "everything"! Just most things. haha. Love your Bruin cupcakes! b/c I heart cupcakes. ;) Me and my Bruin friends are getting ready to partay too. I don't care about the spread. I am saying it will be an upset. Wait and see. You heard it here first. Did I bet on the game? Heck no. Have you seen the spread? HAHA. Happy (early) Birthday!

A Trojan here hoping that the Bruins win! :D I've never had the spirit and never will, so I'm happy to quietly support your team via this comment :). Don't ask me to watch the game or even know who won. I really have never been interested haha.

Nice 8 clap Mary! I'm in an office filled with totally obnoxious USC fans, so I've been getting a ton of grief leading into this saturday's game --- i am so hoping for an upset --- like you said, it's happened before!!!

I need to get my booty in gear... having a small party to watch the game tomorrow, so will be posting tomorrow afternoon.

Love the cupcakes...and I love the confetti!

GO BRUINS!!!!

Those cupcakes look so yummy. You're making me really tempted into trying one bowl cupcakes, but I always get the feeling that I can't make anything without the mixer!

It would be nice if my school had this kind of team spirit.. I think we have the emptiest stadium and probably one win in the past 12 yrs.. or something like that

Happy birthday FL! Hope you have a wonderful day filled with lots of pampering and delicious food.

Your post reminds me of how important college sports is in Kentucky where there are no professional teams. We went to the men's basketball game last night (sadly, they lost) but the fans are so loyal! There's a lot of emphasis on Kentucky and the colors blue and white...I think to point out that college basketball is a state event for all Kentuckians, not just the university crowd.

Happy Birthday! Sorry UCLA didn't come through for you; at least a local team is going to the Rose Bowl. Great looking cupcakes!
