Padron pepper was imported as a result of trade by christopher columbus with the indegenis people in Mexico , he took to spain and they even named a whole town padron in northwestern spain famous for its peppers , japanese took the seeds and planted in japan and that resulted in the shishito , the flavor is slightly different than padron because of the japanese climat and soil is quiet different from spain or mexico . both of them are delicious .Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2503994994675408248.post-48111826422806646762010-07-08T08:12:26.013-07:002010-07-08T08:12:26.013-07:00There is a restaurant here in Denver (The Corner O...There is a restaurant here in Denver (The Corner Office) that serves these as an appetizer (fried and lightly salted). It's my understanding that the shishito is a cousin of the padron. The seed companies sell the seeds separately. The Los Angeles Times Food Section article "Walk on the mild side" by Ana Ortiz Longo (July 27, 2005): <br /><br />"About 2 to 4 inches long, shishito peppers are similar in flavor to pimientos de Padron, a smaller green pepper from Galicia, Spain."<br /><br />Either way, I'm sure both are delicious...but if you are in a sushi place, you'd have to order the shishito peppers because they probably wouldn't know the padron name. :)The Food Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09964596880945435097noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2503994994675408248.post-31240488052646290392009-07-08T21:13:11.006-07:002009-07-08T21:13:11.006-07:00Those are just overgrown Spanish Padron peppers! Those are just overgrown Spanish Padron peppers!arniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11274026021115111334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2503994994675408248.post-46561510774040453772009-06-23T14:56:04.900-07:002009-06-23T14:56:04.900-07:00I live on the East Coast, and saw these at the Asi...I live on the East Coast, and saw these at the Asian Market.
