For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Beth of Supplicious decided on Chipster-Topped Brownies on pages 94 and 95 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.
I didn't get a chance to make these over the Memorial Day holiday like I planned. I got sick and stayed in bed watching almost everything on my DVR. Man, too bad I'm not a Nielsen family...I would have given them so much data. I'm all caught up on Ugly Betty, House, Southland, and picked up Fashion Show (still on the fence on this one...I use the remote a lot to speed through parts). My favorite show is In Plain Sight. And when does Mad Men start again?! Sigh. I'm a serious basic cable and TV junkie.
Okay. So I came home from work and thought mini cupcake brownie thingies would be faster. Yeah, I'm still ill in the head. Scooping little scoops is faster than tossing this into a pan? Not.
Anyway, things overflowed and I got an ugly mess! Oh man. This was heading down the path of a Jon & Kat + 8 train wreck. Oh my gosh. Did you see the season premiere? It was soooo sad. I felt horrible being a voyeur watching a marriage collapse (along with a zillion other people). That's fine when it is scripted drama, but I don't think I can watch this season. Too painful.
Oh yeah, back to the brownies with crispy critter cookie on top. Although the top didn't turn out like I wanted, but they tasted pretty good! Next time, I'm definitely going for regular brownie squares. :)
If you want the recipe, find it on Beth's blog Supplicious or get Dorie's fabulous book! Be sure to check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers!
Whew. With 90 minutes to spare, I made it! I'm starting on next week's yummy Cinnamon Squares right away (I made them before and they are sooooo yummy!!)

Your minis look cute! Hope you are feeling better!
They look delicious. They might have overflowed, but the first thing I thought when I saw the first picture was, 'how did she get the cookies so perfect on the brownies? They look like graduation caps"
Great job. :-)
They look and sound very very good to me. I just love mini muffin pans. Makes you feel like you can eat may more than one without the guilt.
I love the crispy edges you got on those, even if it was accidental :) I've never watched In Plain Sight - maybe that's next on my list of tv shows to become addicted to?
sorry they didn't work out like you planned! and PS- you're making me very excited for Cinnamon Squares!
I love House, still have a few episodes to catch up on-
I agree with you on the whole Jon & Kate thing, too sad to watch.
I think the crispy cookie tops look fun and yummy!
Those look so cute! I saw J+K and it was painful to watch, especially seeing the transformation of Kate. In the beginning seasons, she was always yelling, but now she just seems like a cold and mean person. All I care about are the kids.
I just bought Dorie's book and have salivating over all the beautiful treats. Love the mini version you made.
they do look like grad. caps! hilarious!! Is it possible to order these? Yum!
Those little minis look delicious. I think that I would probably eat a lot of them in a very short amount of time!
I hope you're feeling better!
These are adorable! YUM. :)
I think they look cute - and besides, it was a great idea!
I think your little cupcakes are adorable! I love how the cookie topping smooshed out and made a cute little hat.
Yeah, I think regular brownies are more up my alley. Your chipsters do look delicious though.
I still need to catch up on Ugly Betty. I think I have 10 or 11 episodes. I can't wait for Mad Men to start.
*Love* Mad Men. comes back in August!
I rarely use my mini-muffin pan because it always ends up taking more time than I think it will. They are adorable though.
these are pretty cute, with their lacey tops! the new show that i know i'll be hooked on is "cake boss" on tlc. i work in a bakery, so that junk is too funny!
I love Cake Boss too! Love that family, especially those sisters! :) - mary
Your mini-cupcakes are soo cute! I love the chocolate chip cookie muffin tops! I'd totally eat those first - reminds me of Seinfeld...
Your minis look cute!
I couldnt watch the Jon and Kate plus 8, you are right. It is like watching your neighbors go through a divorce or something, when everyone knows, so sad.
I bet your minis were a pain to scoop out, but at least they cooked through. Were the crunchy overrun part tasty?
I am 7 months pregnant and drooling right now over your mini chipster-topped brownies. Mmmm! To help overcome my sudden chocolate craving, I just had a bowl of Cocoa Krispie cereal. Just not the same, tho'...sigh. Can't wait to see the next posting. Your biggest fan, Racheal
I already have the cinnamon squares recipe bookmarked, they do look so good.
J&K+8 was sad :-( I hope they make it.
Hope you feel better! Did you get to be bake the Cake Slice Devils's Food cake? It was delish!
Hope you are feeling better by now. I love getting caught up on the DVR and it sounds like you had some good stuff to watch. A lot of people are saying the same thing about J&K+8. Seems like they should stop the show and focus on their family. Anyway, cute little chipsters!
Where are mine dammit?? Those look good.
I will watch Jon & Kate forever even after they change it to Jon + four and Kate + four...
sorry to hear that.. it didn't turned out to what you've expected
I like those brownie "hats" you made! ;)
Well they look awesome...we have different TV tastes, but Mad Men is currently shooting and should be back mid-late summer. LOVE that show!!
Ahhhhhh! Great minds think alike!
Superb!
I can not tell you how good those look!
The mini version was a great idea!
OK....In Plain Sight is in it's second season...can I just jump in now or do I need to start at the beginning and catch up ?
Hey Mary,
You can go in at any time for In Plain Sight. It's kinda Law and Order in that one story starts and ends. There are aspects of the characters that are developing, but no problem if you start in the middle. - mary
Great pictures, Mary. As for J and K + 8, I didn't watch it. I cannot stand reality shows, and I don't watch any of them. Well, except Reno 911, and that's a fake reality show, but I laugh so hard I almost peed myself. As for other shows - I love Burn Notice!
I think you may be on to something here. They are cute.
I actually think they're kinda cute...lots of character.
Sorry you haven't been feeling well.

Your brownies look terrific! Mine didn't turn out quite as expected either but they were tasty. I watched J+K too - sooooo sad and difficult to watch.
They look ready to scoop some ice cream on!! I must try them... circle of course, why be a conformist and make squares like everyone else :)
Well, those are cute. And as long as they taste good.....
eh they're just a bit rustic - no problem! :) i like the idea of muffin shapes :)
Great job, I like the smaller size, perfect for popping in your mouth! Hope you feel better.
